Mission Statement
The Albert’s Letter Nonprofit Organization teaches expressive writing as an outlet, and healing technique, for people suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. We strive to help those with PTSD understand and embrace their story, then learn to express it in writing. We welcome you with open arms.
Journaling has a positive effect on mood and mental health on two levels, says the Greater Good Science Center at the University of Berkeley: ‘It enables you to release distressing thoughts that might be stuck in your head. It lets you reflect on your emotions instead of automatically falling into old patterns of behavior’ - Foy, C.
Our Beliefs Become Your Strengths
EMPATHY
What you are experiencing is tough. You are not alone. You do not have to carry the weight by yourself. We are here to help you.
RESOURCEFULNESS
The tools you need to heal. The right people leading the way.
INCLUSIVITY
You are welcome here. There is no rush on what you are comfortable sharing. Do not ever hesitate to reach out to us.
About Albert and a Labor of Love
Albert, my younger brother, a decorated, proud Marine for seven years, served in combat In the First Gulf War in 1990. After that, he spent almost 19 years serving his community in El Paso, Texas, as a Police Officer and Sergeant. Half of Albert's life was dedicated to serving his country and community.
Albert also suffered from severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which, sadly, went untreated. During some of his darkest hours, Albert made a decision that would change the course of his life. He served time in prison and, while there, wrote a letter to his brother, a letter full of regret and guilt, memories and love. In April of 2021, Albert passed away from complications from alcoholism, which he battled for decades. He died on his 53rd birthday.
We hope to help those who experience the effects of PTSD, so they do not have to suffer as Albert did. Our desired end-state is to have our graduates continue their writing/journaling/storytelling as they continue to heal their hearts, bodies, minds, and spirits.
